BAIA: THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SUBMERGED PARK

BAIA : A SNAPSHOT OF THE PAST IN TE NAPLES GULF

Baia, welcome into the kingdom of Roman culture.

Baia-Dioniso-god-statue
(Claudio’s Ninfeo statue of god Dionysus)

Baia is an ancient Roman Empire thermal city, collapsed underwater for bradyseism phenomenon.

Located on an active volcano’s area, going from Possilipo to Miseno, is a well-conserved snapshot of the past.

Diving around old villas and thermal remains is very exciting, especially when you see the amazing, and perfectly conserved, mosaic floors.

Most of the times, the visibility is very poor, and a flat sandy bottom makes the orientation very difficult.

So diving activities are permitted only with an authorized diving center.

Mosaic floors are not directly accessible.

Specialized guides, that know perfectly the right way, will discover floors from the sand, that cover totally these beautiful artworks.

After you see the mosaics, guides have to cover again, for protecting them from erosion.

Enjoy the gallery and if you like, leave a comment and share.
